Four years ago, during the last presidential election, I still lived in Germany. I remember setting my alarm for every two hours or so during the night so I could wake up and see the election results. Let me tell you, waking up at four a.m. and hearing that George W. Bush won his bid for re-election is NOT the best way to start the day, unless you're a Republican.

Also, my German friend Sven sent me a sympathy card about the outcome of the election. I wonder if I still have that?

Anyway, fast forward four years. It's SO MUCH NICER to wake up and hear results that are practically the total opposite! (I didn't stay up late to see the rest of the results come in... I went to bed around 10:30.) YAY! A NEW DAY HAS COME!

(It's been almost four years since I first met Jess... and through Jess I met so many awesome people in Germany! I am so glad we are friends! Remember that first Thanksgiving?)

Hey lady... I remember that day too. That inauspicious day when i knew I would have to face Germans wiht emotions ranging from incredulity to flat-out anger, adn try to explain how that guy not only got elected... but re-elected.

Thanksgiving, though. THat was fun. It was you and me and Thomas and Sarah and Bill and Twila, right? For some reason I remember that Bill made beets and they were yummy.

I tried really hard to make Thanksgivings happens in Germany. That one was one of the better ones. I think the next year I celebrated with a turkey sandwich. Or maybe it was just a chicken sandwich. And I don't even think I'm exaggerating. :-)
