I will admit it - I have done nothing productive at work today. Instead, I've surfed the internet, caught up on my blogs, and spent hours searching through monster.com. Now I am completely overwhelmed by the number of management positions available in the Toledo/NW Ohio area, none of which I am qualified for because I have no experience!
How am I supposed to figure out what I want to do with the next 3-5 years of my life? (This is a serious question - I am pondering, unable to make a decision.) I scroll through the search results, completely unmoved by what is out there. Finance. Managerial work. Sales. Lots of stuff for the Naval Reserve. But those options (while possibly completely thrilling for everyone else who is job searching) just aren't pushing my buttons.
I didn't think I'm looking for anything spectacular, really... just a job.
Maybe that is my problem? I don't know how to narrow my focus into something beyond "entry-level." I took a couple of those career aptitude tests online (one of which based solely on colors!), and both told me that I'd be good at a creative and somewhat artistic job like writing, photography, etc. Question is, how do I find those jobs- especially when I have that (dreaded) "no experience" in either writing (other than academic writing in my major) or photography/arts?
I wish I had paid more attention to the career center at Witt... I think I'm in way over my head here :-/

Well, it's pretty difficult to find a full-time photography/art/illustration/writing job unless you want to be a reporter or go into graphic design. Otherwise you'll be freelancing, and that's hard and insurance-less. Local trade magazines are a good place to start a publishing career. If you're intersted in writing, start writing about some of your experiences from abroad ... you don't necessarily need *published* writing samples to get a writing job.
